Day of the Tentacle (1993) - Review
Day of the Tentacle is LucasArts' comic masterpiece: three friends, three time periods (past, present, future), and one purple tentacle about to enslave humanity. Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman's script is the sharpest the studio ever shipped.
The time-travel machine
The design is symmetrical and brilliant: actions in 1793 alter 1993 and 2093. Sending a painting back in time to be admired by its own artist, or vacuuming a tentacle with future technology, remains some of the cleverest puzzle writing ever committed to code.
Why the remaster is not optional
The 2016 remaster adds modern controls, a gorgeous redrawn art layer, and - most importantly - the ability to switch to the original 1993 pixel art at will. The Day of the Tentacle that exists today is the definitive edition of a game that never needed fixing.
Verdict: the funniest game LucasArts ever made, and that is saying something.
